Bouygues, France, will dismantle 3000 Huawei mobile antennas in 8 years

According to Reuters, Bouygues deputy chief executive Olivier Roussat said on Thursday local time that after French authorities decided to ban Huawei equipment, Bouygues would replace 3,000 Huawei mobile antennas by 2028.

It is reported that the French government has informed telecom operators planning to purchase Huawei’s 5G equipment that once the license expires, they will not be able to renew the equipment’s license, thus enabling Huawei to gradually withdraw from the UK’s mobile network by 2027.

Roussat said that many sites will have to gradually dismantle Huawei's equipment, the number is about 3,000. He added, "The dismantling work will continue for 8 years and will have a limited impact on our operating results." Bouygues also announced the first-half performance that exceeded market expectations on the same day, but did not specify which company's equipment will be used to replace Huawei's equipment.

Roussat said that Huawei's mobile devices have been banned in cities such as Brest, Strasbourg, Toulouse and Rennes, and that Huawei's mobile devices cannot be used in Paris.

According to public information, Bouygues' business involves media, construction, and telecommunications. It has repeatedly stated that if Huawei equipment must be replaced, it will seek compensation from the French government. In this regard, Roussat said that it is currently negotiating with the French authorities and declined to comment further.

The UK’s decision to ban Huawei is undoubtedly an unwise move. A previous study by Mobile UK stated that a total ban on Huawei’s use of 5G will cause these costs to double the industry as a Leave its market share to Ericsson and Nokia.

The research organization Assembly estimates that if the use of Huawei is banned, it will cost the UK economy between 4.5 billion and 6.8 billion pounds, and will delay its 5G construction by at least two years.
