Toshiba will set up a subsidiary to deal with data business to accelerate CPS transformation

According to the IT media website report, on December 17, Toshiba announced that it would establish a wholly-owned subsidiary Toshiba Data on February 3, 2020 to exclusively handle data business. The specific business is to combine the development and manufacturing experience with information processing IoT / AI technology, analyze the operation data collected from the factory IoT device side, and apply it to equipment maintenance.

According to Toshiba's statement, Toshiba Data will be established in Minato-ku, Tokyo on February 3, 2020, and the CEO will be headed by Taro Shimada, who is now Toshiba's top digital leader, and Koo Kitagawa will be the COO.

According to a spokesperson, Toshiba will also collect data outside the factory machinery and equipment to develop new services for businesses and consumers.

Toshiba's goal is to become a CPS (Cyber-Physical Systems) technology company that can use digital technology to analyze and understand various data and return it to the real world. Toshiba hopes to accelerate the CPS transformation process by establishing Toshiba data.
