The last mass production is 7nm! Samsung's EUV technology foundry line V1 in Korea

According to the fast technology report, today (20), Samsung announced that it will open a new wafer foundry production line V1 specializing in EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) technology in South Korea's Hwaseong Industrial Park, with a mass production of 7nm.

It is understood that the V1 production line started in February 2018, and test wafer production will begin in the second half of 2019. The first products will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of this year. At present, V1 has invested in the production of 7nm and 6nm EUV mobile chips, and plans to be foundry to the highest 3nm scale in the future.

According to Samsung's arrangement, by the end of 2020, the total investment of the V1 production line will reach US $ 6 billion, and the total production capacity of advanced processes below 7nm will be three times that of 2019. Dr. ES Jung, president of Samsung's manufacturing business, said that the V1 line will work with the S3 line to help the company expand its customers and respond to market demand.

Samsung now has six fabs in the world, including one 8-inch and five 12-inch. Previously, Samsung Electronics had stated that it planned to invest 133 trillion won to upgrade the semiconductor business by 2030.

According to the plan, 73 trillion won of the 133 trillion won investment is technology research and development costs, and 60 trillion won is the construction of the fab infrastructure, which is expected to create 15,000 jobs. Samsung ’s goal is to reach 2030 Not only to keep the lead in memory chips, but also to become leaders in logic chips.
