The UK may eventually ban Huawei equipment! British officials: discussing how to cut costs for new suppliers

In January this year, the United Kingdom listed Huawei as a "high-risk supplier" and announced that it would limit Huawei's 5G business share to less than 35%, while excluding it from the core network.

According to the latest news from Bloomberg News, the British Minister of Digitalization, Culture, Media and Sports Oliver Dowden revealed in a question on the British Parliament’s National Defense Committee on Tuesday that the UK will not eventually use Huawei equipment.

In addition, he said that Samsung and NEC are the suppliers they want to enter the UK market. Government officials are studying ways to cut costs for new suppliers, such as trade and financial incentives.

Dowden also mentioned that the new “Sanctions” issued by the United States in May this year will put Huawei’s chip supply at risk, which will affect Huawei’s 5G network supply capacity.

In addition, Dowden said that the restrictions imposed on Huawei in January by the United Kingdom will cost about 1.5 billion pounds (1.9 billion U.S. dollars) and will delay the deployment of the network for one year, while stricter regulations will mean increased costs. Officials are considering the next move, but no decision has been made yet. He also emphasized that if national security needs, they will not hesitate to implement restrictions, even if this will lead to higher costs.
