As major global cloud service providers expand their artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, demand for AI chips and storage chips has surged dramatically. Simultaneously, demand for server CPUs is also growing, leading to supply shortages and price increases for server CPUs from leading manufacturers Intel and AMD.
According to TrendForce's latest research report, North American cloud service providers (CSPs) are intensifying investments in AI infrastructure, projected to drive global AI server shipments to grow over 28% year-on-year by 2026. Global server shipments (including AI servers) are also expected to increase by 12.8% in 2026, accelerating from 2025's growth rate.
Industry sources indicate that due to bulk purchases by hyperscale cloud providers, Intel and AMD have nearly sold out their entire 2026 server CPU production capacity. To address this extreme supply-demand imbalance and ensure stable future supply, both companies plan to raise server CPU prices by 10-15%.
KeyBanc analyst John Vinh noted in a January 20 research report that AMD's 2026 server CPU inventory is nearly sold out. As hyperscalers secure capacity to guarantee supply, AMD may raise its server CPU average selling price by 10-15%.
John Vinh believes AMD's Q4 earnings report, scheduled for release in February, will not only exceed Wall Street revenue expectations but also potentially raise its outlook for the next quarter. This is primarily driven by robust server CPU demand, particularly for the latest-generation Turin data center CPUs.
Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon also raised AMD's fourth-quarter revenue forecast in a January 21 report, citing optimistic server CPU market outlook. His model further projects AMD's Epyc server CPU revenue (including fifth-generation Turin CPUs) could grow by 30% by 2026.
Driven by these developments, Intel shares surged 11.72% in U.S. trading on January 21, closing at $54.25 per share—its highest closing price since January 18, 2022. AMD shares jumped 7.71%, closing at $249.80 per share, marking its highest closing price since November 12, 2025.
