Samsung's operating profit in the second fiscal quarter of 2021 is expected to reach $10 billion

On Wednesday, Samsung will release the latest financial report for the second fiscal quarter of 2021. Many market analysis agencies have made forward-looking analysis of Samsung’s performance in the new fiscal quarter. It is generally believed that Samsung’s operating profit will increase substantially in the second quarter.

According to a Reuters report on July 6, Samsung Electronics’ profit for the April-June quarter may increase by 38% due to strong chip prices. Consumer demand for electronic products during the epidemic has also stimulated the rise in the consumer electronics market. Including the rebound in data center applications.

According to data presented by 20 analysts at Refinitiv SmartEstimate, Samsung’s operating profit may jump to 11.3 trillion won (US$10 billion) in the new fiscal quarter.

Operating income is likely to grow by 20%, which will also be Samsung's highest operating income in the second quarter since 2018. Total revenue may increase by 15.4%.

Analysts said that the company's chip division may benefit from higher-than-expected memory chip prices, while shipments have also increased.

According to Trendforce's data, the price of DRAM chips widely used in servers, mobile phones and other computing devices has increased by 27% compared to the first quarter, while the price of NAND flash memory chips that serve the data storage market has increased by 8.6%.

Analysts said that Samsung's chip foundry manufacturing and logic chip design business profits have also improved, partly because the operations of the Texas factory hit by the storm have returned to normal. Analysts estimate that the operating profit of the chip division in the new fiscal quarter increased by about 22% from the same period last year to about 6.6 trillion won.

However, according to data from Shinyoung Investment & Securities, Samsung’s smartphone shipments from April to June fell from approximately 76 million in the first quarter to approximately 59 million. Sales slowed down.

Analysts said that because of the deterioration of the epidemic prevention in India this quarter, the demand for mobile phones and the tight supply of some mobile processor chips may also affect shipments. It is estimated that the operating profit of the mobile business is about 2.9 trillion won. .
