Samsung launches 5nm EUV production line, expected to be completed by the end of June

According to SAMMOBILE, Samsung began construction of a 5nm EUV production line one year after the development of a 5nm process. Samsung hopes to defeat TSMC by 2030 and become a leader in the semiconductor industry.

Samsung has ordered the necessary equipment from the semiconductor equipment maker to build a 5nm production line at the V1 plant in the Hwaseong campus. It usually takes 2 to 3 months to complete the installation of all equipment, and Samsung is expected to complete the 5nm production line around the end of June.

In view of the completion of the chip production line, it needs to include testing, evaluation, and yield improvement processes. Industry insiders expect that Samsung will be able to produce 5nm chips on a large scale by the end of this year or early next year. Previously, according to digitimes reports, industry sources revealed that TSMC will begin mass production of 5nm chips in April. In terms of 5nm chip production, Samsung will be at least half a year behind TSMC. At present, Samsung and other companies have reached agreements, in which Qualcomm Snapdragon x60 5G baseband will be manufactured using Samsung 5nm process.
