MediaTek's 5nm process chip will be put into production in Q4

MediaTek recently launched the latest 5G mobile phone flagship chip "Dimensity 1200", which is produced by TSMC's 6-nanometer process. As for the 5-nanometer process chip, the company previously disclosed that it is close to the design finalization stage. According to market reports, MediaTek’s first 5-nanometer process chip will be put into production in the fourth quarter of this year. It should be next year’s flagship product, but the company declined to comment on the relevant news.

The Dimensity 1200 is MediaTek’s flagship chip for 5G mobile phones this year. The first model of this chip is estimated to be Realme X9 Pro. As for the Dimensity 1100 chip of the same series and also using the 6-nanometer process, the first machine The species should be vivo S9. Although MediaTek did not disclose the average unit price of 5G mobile phone chips, it is generally believed that it is still a bit higher than the price of 4G chips, which will help its revenue and profit performance.

MediaTek CEO Cai Lixing previously assessed that this year will be the second year of the world’s rapid 5G upgrade. Global 5G mobile phone shipments are expected to exceed 500 million, about 2.5 times last year’s shipments, of which about 60% are from Contribution to the mainland market. The company's 5G market share in the serviceable market (SAM) last year exceeded 40%, and it will continue to increase its market share this year.

MediaTek currently has three major product lines going hand in hand, but as an example from the previous quarter, the mobile computing platform business, including mobile phone chips, was still the most important project, accounting for 45% to 50% of performance. The other two are growth products, and Smart home product line.
