Is Intel also laying off? Optimize resources and close low-priority services

According to foreign media reports, Intel recently announced that its headquarters will lay off 128 people. CEO Robert Swan said that the company will optimize resources and cancel some non-priority businesses.

It is reported that this layoff is part of Intel's employee adjustment plan announced last month. Intel has about 118,000 employees worldwide. According to its official statement, the proportion of layoffs does not exceed 1%, that is, about 1,100 employees are affected, which is not a large-scale layoff relative to the total. In addition, Intel said that while layoffs, they will continue to recruit key talents around the world, with an expected increase of more than 1,300 job requirements.

Intel's headquarters in Santa Clara has approximately 8,400 employees, and the 128 job cuts at this time are still very symbolic. The specific business units involved in this layoff are unknown, but Intel's Advanced Technology Division is clearly not included. According to Swan's previous statement, the 10nm production capacity has exceeded expectations, and there will be 9 10nm products in 2020.

According to the latest report from the California Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN), in addition to Intel, Xilinx will also reduce 123 employees at its San Jose headquarters. On the above notice, chip companies in need of layoffs include Marvell. And Wave Computing.

It is worth mentioning that AI chip company Wave computing will cut 67 people, which is mainly related to their AI chip development plan. It is reported that the AI upstart AI chip business is blocked and the company is in a difficult situation, which is why they stopped the Mips open source business earlier.
