According to Reuters, Apple said on Wednesday that it will spend $1 billion to start construction in Austin, Texas, the second plant outside Texas to produce MacBook Pro.
Apple said the plant will cover an area of 3 million square feet; the factory will initially recruit 5,000 employees and will grow to 15,000; the plant is expected to go into production in 2022.
It is understood that Austin is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States with a population of about 1 million. The University has the University of Texas and other technology companies (including Dell). Apple currently has 7,000 employees in Austin.
In addition, Apple said in a statement that it will continue to expand in Boulder, Karl Filip, New York, Pittsburgh, San Diego and Seattle.
