Image sensor to force! Sony Semiconductor business is expected to become the first in Japan

According to the News & Chips website, at the end of October, Sony released the financial statements for the first half of FY19. The imaging and sensor solutions division expects full-year revenue of 1 trillion yen and operating profit of 200 billion yen, including image sensor business. Annual revenue is expected to reach 890 billion yen. Comparing Kioxia's estimated annual revenue of 751.1 billion yen, Sony is likely to become Japan's number one semiconductor company this year.

According to Sony's second-quarter financial statements, image sensor sales in the second quarter were 274.8 billion yen, up 33.5% year-on-year, so sales of the business rose 50 billion from the estimated 840 billion yen in July.

In contrast, the focus is on the NAND flash business. On the one hand, Samsung's NAND flash memory business continued to expand its market share in the second quarter. On the one hand, Toshiba's Yokkaichi factory suffered a power outage in June, so the sales of the NAND flash memory business dropped 37%.

In addition, the financial report shows that the image and sensor solutions division's overall sales in the second quarter of 310.7 billion yen, 88% of the proportion from the CMOS image sensor business. In addition to the imaging and sensor solutions division, Sony's pillar sales fell sharply year-on-year in the second quarter, and the imaging and sensor solutions division could become a new pillar.
