IC Insights: This year DRAM and NAND have the highest growth rate among IC segment products

IC Insights recently released the 2021 edition of "The McClean Report" (The McClean Report), which made a ranking forecast on the sales growth rate of the semiconductor industry segmented products this year. The segment list includes the definition of the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS) Of 33 IC product categories. The figure below shows the top ten IC market segments with the fastest growth predicted this year.

The report predicts that the sales of the top ten semiconductor products in each category will achieve double-digit growth. IC Insights also predicts that the total semiconductor market will grow by 12% this year.

The report shows that DRAM and NAND will become the two fastest-growing product areas in 2021, with sales expected to grow by 18% and 17% respectively. It is worth noting that in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018, DRAM will have the highest growth. Fast semiconductor segmentation products; on the other hand, affected by market cycle volatility, DRAM is also one of the categories with the worst growth rate at certain times. For example, the DRAM market dropped by 37% in 2019, and there were 33 IC products that year Ranked last in the category.

The strong market demand for laptops and tablet computers has increased NAND sales by 24% in 2020, mainly due to the changes in the way schools, enterprises and governments work and conduct business due to the new crown epidemic. It is estimated that by 2021, with the improvement of smartphone technology and the development of 5G technology, NAND revenue will continue to grow by 17%.

In addition, the report also predicts that the two automotive IC product categories-dedicated analog chips and special purpose logic chips will also be one of the fastest growing market segments this year. Affected by the epidemic at the beginning of 2020, global new car sales are unfavorable, but the demand for cars rebounded in early 2021, and there is a shortage of car chips. It is expected that this year, as the global sales of pure electric vehicles rebound and the expansion of autonomous driving technology will boost the sales of various on-board chips, the chip loading value of each new car can be increased to more than US$550.

The report also pointed out that the growth rate of embedded processors with AI capabilities will reach 15% this year.

Many new 32-bit MCU designs support wireless connections and Internet Protocol (IP) communications. In automobiles, "smart" in-vehicle systems have driven the demand for 32-bit MCUs and added real-time sensor functions, which can meet more and more automated safety functions, such as electronic stability control (ESC) and obstacle avoidance functions.
