Huawei, Apple's 7/5nm demand is big, TSMC is crazy to increase EUV orders

In 2020, due to global economic problems, the electronics industry would have declined, but the wafer foundries continued to rise, and TSMC's revenue in the Q1 quarter rose by 30%, firmly securing the position of the global wafer foundry. . Due to the large demand for 7nm and 5nm processes from companies such as Huawei and Apple, TSMC is currently ramping up EUV production capacity.

TSMC mass-produced the 7nm process in 2018, but the first-generation 7nm has no EUV process support. In 2019, the 7nm EUV process was first launched by Huawei's Kirin 990 5G processor, and this year's 5nm process will fully launch the EUV process.

According to the data previously published by TSMC, the current monthly capacity of the 7nm and 7nm EUV processes has reached 110,000 wafers/month, and the monthly capacity of the 5nm process has also reached the level of 50,000 wafers, which is basically a full load level. .

The full capacity of TSMC's 7nm and 5nm production capacity is also related to this year's situation. Among them, in order to cope with the suppression of the United States, Huawei has added a lot of orders in recent months and has taken over many of TSMC's 5nm and 7nm production capacity.

There is also Apple, the iPhone 12 will use the A14 processor this year, the iPad Pro will also have a new A14X processor, and the demand for 5nm and 7nm is also high.

Others include MediaTek, AMD, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. Although they are not as large as Huawei and Apple's orders, they have also boosted TSMC's capacity demand.

This year, TSMC's EUV production capacity has soared, which has also caused TSMC to continuously increase EUV orders. In addition to ASML's lithography machines, EUV-related photomasks and modules are also frantically placing orders, making EUV industry's revenues soaring. It is necessary to prepare a bill before September to meet the needs of companies such as Apple and Huawei.
