Similarly, MediaTek has postponed its plans to utilize TSMC's 2nm process for its Dimensity 9500 chips due to cost and capacity considerations. Furthermore, NVIDIA and Qualcomm are also reportedly exploring the possibility of redirecting part of their orders to Samsung Electronics’ 2nm process.
Samsung Electronics is expected to begin trial production of 2nm chips in the first quarter of this year. The company has already secured an order from Japan-based AI startup Preferred Networks, which it took from TSMC, and is collaborating with NVIDIA and Qualcomm to test its 2nm process.
This shift highlights efforts by major tech companies to diversify their supply chains, as many firms aim to avoid an over-reliance on TSMC, whose dominant position could allow it to exert pricing control.
