Half a year of negotiations failed! South Korea reopens WTO complaint against Japan’s export controls

According to foreign media reports, the South Korean government said on Tuesday that it decided to restart the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement process against Japan’s export controls, and said that Japan and South Korea failed to make progress in negotiations to resolve trade disputes.

Last July, Japan restricted the export of three raw materials used to manufacture semiconductors and displays to South Korea, threatening the pillar industries of the Korean economy and the global supply chain of technology components. In August, Japan removed South Korea from its trade "white list."

South Korea filed a complaint with the WTO on Japan’s export control measures in September last year, but suspended the relevant procedures in November to initiate further negotiations with Japan.

However, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea said in a statement on Tuesday: "The Japanese government has not demonstrated its determination to solve the problem, and no progress has been made in the negotiations to resolve the outstanding issues."

In addition, according to Kyodo News, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshihiro Mogi at the press conference on 2nd, said that South Korea has restarted the dispute settlement procedure in the WTO on the strengthening of export control of Japan to South Korea. dissatisfied.
