GlobalFoundries to Acquire Synopsys' ARC Business, Further Expanding Semiconductor IP Portfolio

GlobalFoundries announced on the 14th local time that it has signed a definitive agreement with Synopsys to acquire the latter's ARC processor IP solutions business. Upon completion of the transaction, the acquired business will be integrated into MIPS, the semiconductor IP company previously acquired by GlobalFoundries.

Synopsys' ARC processor IP solutions business encompasses the classic ARC CPU, RISC-V-based ARC-V CPU, ARC VPX-DSP, and ARC NPX NPU product lines, along with a suite of Application-Specific Instruction-Set Processor (ASIP) software tools.

GlobalFoundries stated this transaction will accelerate innovation and enhance its ability to deliver solutions for consumer-grade physical AI applications and advanced AI chips.
