Changes in Apple's executive team Dan Riccio will be transferred to take charge of "new projects"

On January 26, Apple's official website issued a press release announcing adjustments to its executive team.

The press release pointed out that Dan Riccio, Apple’s head of hardware engineering and senior vice president of hardware engineering, will be transferred to a new position and will focus on new projects in the future and report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook; current vice president of hardware engineering John Ternus will join Apple's senior management team, took over as senior vice president of hardware engineering, responsible for leading Apple's hardware engineering department.

Dan Riccio joined Apple in 1998 and is responsible for leading the product design team; in 2010, Dan Riccio became the vice president of iPad hardware engineering; in 2012, Dan Riccio joined the executive team as the head of hardware engineering. Today, Dan Riccio will continue to play an important role in shaping the future of Apple products as the vice president of engineering.

According to the press release, Dan Riccio has led the design, development and engineering of almost all Apple products. From the first generation of iMac, to the newly released 5G iPhone series, M1 chip-based Macs and AirPods Max, the hardware engineering teams for these products are all formed by Riccio. Tim Cook commented that every innovation Dan Riccio helped Apple achieve has made the company better and more innovative.

Apple did not disclose specific information about Dan Riccio's future "new projects" in the press release. Dan Riccio said it’s time to change, “Next, I will do what I love the most, which is to use all my time and energy at Apple to create something new and wonderful. I feel very much about this. Looking forward and extremely excited."

According to foreign media speculation, Dan Riccio's new job may be related to Apple's self-driving car project.

After Dan Riccio's transfer, the current vice president of hardware engineering John Ternus will take over as senior vice president of hardware engineering.

John Ternus is also a veteran of Apple. According to reports, John Ternus graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He joined the Apple product design team in 2001 and later served as the vice president of hardware engineering in 2013. In the nearly 20 years of working for Apple, John Ternus has been in charge of hardware engineering for a series of breakthrough products, including the first generation of AirPods and previous generations of iPad products.

Not long ago, John Ternus was responsible for leading the hardware team for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. At the same time, John Ternus is also a key leader in the transition from Mac to Apple chips.

Regarding John Ternus, Tim Cook said, "John has a wealth of professional knowledge and extensive experience, and he will definitely become a courageous and visionary leader of our hardware engineering team."
